A couple weeks ago we had the privilege of moving into a brand new building for 3 Cords. This means so many things for us - more work space, the ability to hire more people, and the chance to dream even bigger than before!

Meet one of the 3Cords Artists: Denise

"My name is Denise. During the earthquake, my house fell on me and I broke my leg. Because there were so few doctors and so many hurting people, I didn't get to see a doctor for many days and my leg became infected; then they had to cut it off. I had to go to many hospitals before I came to Mission of Hope. I give thanks to God that nothing hurts on my prosthesis and I sleep well. I pray that God will help me not think about my old leg.

After my operation, I moved to live at Corail because I had nowhere else to live. It was there that I met my sister in Christ, Louphine, who introduced me to Mission of Hope. After I got my new leg, I started working with 3Cords. I love to work SO MUCH because before 3Cords, I had no work, and nothing to sell, and it was very difficult to live. When people come here, they see us working and they are so happy! Thank you very very much for all your support."

Denise's smile lights up the room. We call her the "sewing machine" on the team because she sews so fast and makes the tiniest little stitches. She takes pride in her work, and is an incredible friend to the other ladies.

3Cords Beach Day

I want to share some amazing pictures from our visit to the beach with the ladies of 3Cords! They are the most inspiring women I have ever met. In the past, Haiti has labeled amputees as incapable. If anyone is going to prove this wrong it will be these women.

Meet one of the 3Cords artists: Louphine

"My name is Louphine. I am 39 years old and I am a mother of 3 girls. I love them so much, and I pray that God will help provide so I can pay for all three to finish school one day. I want that for them because I never got to finish school, as my parents did not have any money. I am very passionate about evangelism, and I am the leader of the evangelism team at church. I also sing in the choir. I love to sing.

Before the earthquake, I used to sell cosmetics in a store in Port-au-Prince. I started this business when I was 14 years old. When the earthquake happened, I was in front of a store selling my products when it crashed down on me. I lost one arm and one leg, and that was very difficult for me. I was depressed for a long time, unsure of what I could do after that. I was brought to the Dominican Republic for an operation, and after that they moved me to a mission called Love A Child. After that, they sent me to live in a tent city called Corail, because I had lost everything in the earthquake. It was there that I met Diana and that is how I got involved in working for 3Cords. I have learned to sew with one hand and can make purses, necklaces, and head bands. I pray that God makes this business successful so I will always have work."

Louphine is a gentle, but strong spirit. She loves the Lord with all her heart and it has been incredible to watch her transform from when she started working at 3Cords to now. At first, she said she could not work because she only had one hand. Now, she does everything completely by herself, and does incredible work. She takes great pride in what she does, and gives Jesus all the glory. She opens every work day in prayer and song with the ladies, and has a beautiful voice.

Meet one of the 3Cords Artists: Natacha

"Before the earthquake, I always loved music and carnivals and all kinds of parties. The earthquake changed my life. On January 12th a house crashed on top of my head and I was trapped for 24 hours. Everyone thought I was going to die. Even though I lost a leg, God saved my life and through this I realized that I want to serve Him my whole life. Another way that God blessed me was that for years I had been trying to have a baby with my husband, but it was not until after the earthquake and losing a leg that I finally got pregnant. I am so excited about that!

Right now, I live in a tent city called Corail (Core-eye) and I met Diana one day when she was there visiting other amputees. I first learned to make cords when I was at Mission of Hope getting my leg fitted, and now I come to work every day to make them, I want handicapped people to do everything non-handicapped people can do because it's really hard to find work. Before the earthquake, handicapped people were hated and seen as useless, but now because there are so many, they do not look at each other like that anymore."

Natacha has a beautiful smile and loves coming to work. She doesn't speak much but when she does, she has beautiful things to share. She is still praying for her husband to know Jesus because she loves him very much. She also loves to read the Bible and other books too.

3Cords' trip to Tallahassee, FL was a great success! Thank you to everyone who supported the 3Cords ladies with some school spirit! Here is a pic of our 3Cords stand at the FSU vs. UF game!

We still have some UF and FSU colored headbands leftover! If you would like one, I will be back in Jacksonville, FL Dec. 16th!

Meet one of the 3Cords Artists: Mary Maude

"Hello! My name is Mary Maude and I live in Croix de Brouquets, Haiti. I became a Christian because my mom taught me the Truth as a child and I love Jesus! Right before the earthquake, I had finished nursing school, and really wanted to be a nurse to help people. In the earthquake, I lost one leg. I didn't know if I would ever find a leg, but I learned about Mission of Hope because my pastor brought me there one day because he knew there was a prosthetics lab there. At first, it was very difficult, but now, every day, I put on my leg and come to work at 3 Cords. Diana taught me to make these headbands and white people like them a lot. I'm very happy because our headbands will be sold on the internet one day, which will help all hurt people live. I'm praying God blesses this business so one day it will into a BIG business and help even more people."

Mary Maude is always smiling. She loves music, singing, dancing, and going to the beach. She is the life of the party and a joy to spend time with. Mary Maude's favorite color is "mauve," which is purple. If your Cord has purple in it, there is a good chance Mary Maude made it for you!

Welcome to 3Cords!!!

3Cords is a new small business that has just started in Titanyen, Haiti. Why, you may ask, was it named 3Cords? One reason, our main product is a braided headband.

The main reason can be understood from Ecclesiastes 4.

"9 Two are better than one... 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up... 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Currently, there are 6 women amputees working in the 3Cords lab. They are such beautiful and amazing women. We want to use this blog to tell each of their inspiring stories, show you our new creations, and keep you updated on all things 3Cords.
